At the south end of the Gulf of Hammamet, on a small, low headland surrounded by flat, arable land, olive groves and pine woods. Skanes is essentially a modern extension of the historic town of Monastir. The bustling old town of Monastir remains picturesque. Dominated by its 9th century walls the old town (medina) and an ancient but well preserved Ribat (fort) used in several movies like the Monty Pythons Life of Brian and more recently seen in the series Jesus of Nazareth. It also houses a lovely museum of artifacts. There is an abundance of shops, bazaars, pavement cafes and restaurants in the numerous side streets. Or a new very modern yacht marina at Cap Monastir, all of which can be reached by yellow and black taxis which are fairly inexpensive or the land tourist train. The beautiful endless beach stretch's for 9 miles from the edge of Monastir in the east and towards Sousse in the west. Horse and camel rides are available. Golfers have a choice between the renowned Palm Links and Flamingo 18 hole course.Approximate transfer time 45 minutes transfer.
