This pleasant resort has an award winning beach and the neighbouring small fishing port of Puerto de Santiago, with several bars and a small beach is within walking distance. The pleasant marina resort of Los Gigantes is around a one hour walk (not flat) or a short taxi ride, where you will find a good choice of bars and restaurants. Los Gigantes has several shops, a small beach and two excellent sea front lidos all dominated by the dramatic black cliffs. Playa de la Arena is a fairly quiet resort on Tenerife´s south westerly coast with one of the best black sand beaches on the island (consistently awarded the European Blue Flag year after year.) It has a few shops, bars and restaurants along the sea-front but is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the larger resorts of Las Americas or Los Cristianos. Its a 15 min walk away from Puerto de Santiago, the local fishing village which has a more Canarian feel to it and where there are several good fish restaurants and there is a coastal walk beyond this to the famous resort of Los Gigantes where you will find the Marina and 2 Lidos. Several boat trips leave from the Los Gigantes marina for whale and dolphin watching. For experienced walkers, one of the most famous walks in the area is in the Barranco de Masca (Masca Ravine) which can be reached on the local bus.
