A great many holidaymakers travel to the island, but not everyone decide to visit Palma. A huge mistake, as there is so much to see and do. The two train stations are in Palma, one line going every 20 minutes to Santa Maria, and Inca, where both villages have very good markets. Fares are approx 6 euros return. The second line is the famous Soller express train, which takes you through the mountains to Soller, and then the tram down to the Port of Soller. The journey to Soller is 1 hour, fares, approx 10 euros one way or 18 euros return. The main bus station is in the area of Plaza Espana, and is now underneath the Inca train station. Many very good restaurants in Palma, too numerous to mention all, but the Colmar, along the Paseo Maritimo, is a very good old established cafe, cheap and cheerful, serving very good meals. C'an Pelut, also along the Paseo Maritimo, serves good pizzas and pasta, along with many other dishes. The indian restaurant adjacent to the hotel Costa Azul, is more than just having dinner, it is an exceptional experience. Samantha's,in the village of Genova, a couple of miles outside Palma, is for that very special celebration, also in Genova are the famous meat restaurants C'an Pedro 1 and 2, both excellent. Take the open topped double decker sightseeing bus around Palma, a good way to see th sights if your time in the city is short. Journey takes 1 hour 20 minutes. 15 euros or 7.50 euros for anyone over 65 years. Try and visit the old quarter of the city, have a coffee in the Grand Hotel, now a famous bookshop, and take time to go up the steps to the Plaza Mayor, and walk through the many cobbled streets and see the antique shops and many art galleries.
Approximate transfer time 20 minutes.
