The charming port and town of Funchal, the capital of Madeira, is architecturally pleasing and there are several churches and museums worth visiting. The Palmair excursions to East and West Madeira introduce you to the major points of interest and are well worth doing. In the city centre - the Bom Fim by the S.Pedro church is a little gem along an old cobbled street.
