Corralejo is the islands largest town and situated in the north. The original town is based around the old harbour which was used by local fishermen. Here the small sheltered beach, Playa la Clavellina, provides safe bathing, and fishing from the harbour wall is a popular pastime. Ferry services operate to Lanzarote and Los Lobos, a small island that is a 15 minute ferry ride. The outskirts lead to a long stretch of golden sand beach which is fringed by spectacular sand dunes - now a protected nature reserve area. Corralejo is one of the bigger resorts on the island however you can still explore the old part of town where you will find typical shops, bars and restaurants visited by the local people. There are good beaches in the resort and the famous sand dunes are a short bus ride away. A small animal experience park and crazy mini golf at the top of end of town along with a market held every Friday and Monday provide something for everyone. Corralejo has a fairly large harbour area with many different water sports activities on offer along with short boat trips to the Island of Lobos and two ferries which operate on approximately an hourly basis over to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. Lots of sea front bars, cafes and restaurants offer different menu choices with wonderful views. A leisurely stroll along the beach and promenade front offer wonderful views to the Island of Lobos and Lanzarote. There is a wide range of tourist shops, bars and restaurants in the main street and in evening and night time many of the bars have live music of different varieties. Make sure to visit one of the many local tapas bars for a taste of the local island cuisine. Fiesta time occurs normally in the month of March, with a different theme each year, when you will see lots of locals partying until the early hours of the following day.
