Armacao de Pera, Algarve
Armacao de Pera was originally a small fishing village and boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve with pretty coves around the coastline. Its a great place for a relaxing holiday and the local fishermen run sightseeing trips in their colourful boats to see the fascinating rock formations, caves and grottos. About 12 miles west is the town of Portimao which can be reached by local bus and offers a good choice of shops.More Information
Compares with Quarteira in that it is also very popular with the Portuguese Tourists so more local atmosphere. The new pedestrianised promenade is a super improvement and the beautiful beach stretches as far as “Gale” which is lovely for a long walk Very relaxing location with a good choice of restaurants at good prices. The popular “MBM” is enjoyed by many. For the shoppers not a lot of choice but Albufeira or Portimao can be reached by local transport. I always recommend a walk, approx 1hour to the Chapel “Nossa senhora da Rocha” (Our Lady of the Rocks). West of the Garbe with stunning views of the cliffs and beaches. There are many excursions available but I recommend from here the “Historical Algarve” to Silves/Monchique/ Lagos & Sagres. Or the jeep Safari. For families the Water Parks Slide & Splash and Aqualand as well as the Zoo Marine are nearby and transport is available.
