Located some 100 miles south of mainland Britain, Jersey is only 14 miles from the coast of France and its cultural landscape - the Norman style
farmhouses, the narrow winding lanes and small fields, the French street
names reflect a fascinating and complex history that has entwined the
island in the fate of two great nations, Britain and France for over 1000 years.
This tiny island measures just 9 miles by 5 and the sea dominates the landscape, with views of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean accessible from virtually every point on the island. The 50 miles of beautiful coastline golden sweeps of sand, small harbours, secluded beaches and rocky
coves will please the visitor at any time of the year and the changing
colours and textures of the fields and gardens mark the seasons as the
island comes alive with a rich variety of flora and fauna. St.Helier is an
excellent shopping centre with pedestrianised streets and a mix of well-known High Street stores and small local shops. The attractive Victorian
vegetable market and fish market, cafs and restaurants provide a relaxed ambience for browsing and buying. Good food has been one of Jerseys
attractions for many years and there are many fine hotel, pubs and restaurants.
